Mission
What We Do
Becks helping hands inc. main focus is helping families living with a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We have 4 main goals within the organization: Handicap accessibility, Loaner equipment, Emotional/correspondence support and Funding research. We want to be able to come in and help families with different situations in life.
We will be working with contractors to help with accessibility changes to homes. From even the smallest changes to the bigger reconstructions that are needed to help make your day to day living easier. We know as a family that navigating throughout the day can be a challenging. Sometimes insurance companies will take some time before they give approval or even deny cases.
Every day we are looking to collect loaner equipment and storing it. We want to be able to be there for you when you really need that help, Even if its just for a day or maybe you need a scooter for a trip you are going on and it will be easier to use while you are gone. Hopefully we will have what you may need and we will be able to help you with your needs.
We want to be here for the caregivers, siblings and loved ones. Dealing with Duchenne is an emotional roller coaster for everyone connected. We will have zoom chats to talk about different subjects on each meeting, and they will be for everyone to join. There will also be times that you can have a one on one meeting if you feel more comfortable with that. Sometimes you may want to just scream or just to get something off your chest that you don’t want to talk with family about and we will be here for you.
Clinical research is very important to continue working towards finding a cure. Without donors some of the treatments now that slow the progression of Duchenne simply would not exist. Behind every big medical breakthrough, there are many years of small discoveries. Which all are stepping stones to the cure. So that’s why it’s so important that they get the funding they need to continue their work. One day there will be a cure to this horrible disease.
How We Help
HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY
Our main goal at Becks Helping Hands Inc is to help families make handicap accessibility changes to their homes. Such as ramps, stair lifts, pool lifts, and small reconstruction in some cases. Please contact us with your needs and together we will come up with a plan to help.
Loaner Equipment
We would like to collect any handicap equipment in working condition that we will be able to turn around and give/loan to other families that are in need. Everything from scooters, wheelchairs, or anything that will be helpful to others.
EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE SUPPORT
Emotional support? We want to help with that as well. Duchenne can become hard for not only the child, but their caretakers as well. The emotional toll that it takes can be overwhelming for all parties involved.
Research Funding
Clinical trials for rare diseases such as Duchenne (DMD) is very important to all families involved. Since there is no cure for Duchenne yet, Doctors and scientist need the funding to continue working towards a cure. Currently there is 5 FDA approved treatments for DMD. They slow the progression of the disease but are not a cure.
